"So much depends on you..."

>> Friday, January 22, 2010

Here is a quote from Venerable John Paul II at World Youth Day 1993.

Young pilgrims, Christ needs you to enlighten the world and to show it the "path of life" (Psalm 16:11). The challenge is to make the Church's "yes" to Life concrete and effective. The struggle will be long, and it needs each one of you. Place your intelligence, your talents, your enthusiasm, your compassion and your fortitude at the service of life! ...

At this stage in human history, the liberating message of the Gospel of Life has been put into your hands. And the mission of proclaiming it to the ends of the earth is now passing to your generation. Like the great Apostle Paul, you too must feel the full urgency of the task: "Woe to me if I do not evangelize" (1 Cor 9:16). Woe to you if you do not succeed in defending life....

The Church needs your energies, your enthusiasm, your youthful ideals, in order to make the Gospel of Life penetrate the fabric of society, transforming people's hearts and the structures of society in order to create a civilization of true justice and love. Now more than ever, in a world that is often without light and without the courage of noble ideals, people need the fresh, vital spirituality of the Gospel...

Do not be afraid to go out on the streets and into public places, like the first Apostles who preached Christ and the Good News of salvation in the squares of cities, towns and villages. This is no time to be ashamed of the Gospel, (cf. Rom. 1:16). It is the time to preach it from rooftops (cf. Mt. 10:27). Do not be afraid to break out of comfortable and routine modes of living, in order to take up the challenge of making Christ known in the modern "metropolis.".

It is you who must "go out into the byroads" (Mt. 22:9) and invite everyone you meet to the banquet which God has prepared for His people. The Gospel must not be kept hidden because of fear or indifference. It was never meant to be hidden away in private. It has to be put on a stand so that people may see its light and give praise to our heavenly Father (cf. Mt. 5:15-16)...

I make my own the words of Saint Paul: "I have great confidence in you, I have great pride in you; I am filled with encouragement, I am overflowing with joy" (2 Cor. 7:4).

These are not words of empty praise. I am confident that you have grasped the scale of the challenge that lies before you, and that you will have the wisdom and courage to meet that challenge.

So much depends on you...

Bloody Anniversary

37 years ago today, January 22, the right to abort a little child became the law of the land. Since that infamous day, more than FIFTY MILLION of our brothers and sisters have been torn from their mother's womb. Many of their tiny bodies have been tossed with the trash in a garbage bag, but some have been rescued and were given the dignity of a proper burial.

His Excellency, Bishop Soto has proclaimed today a day of "reparation for the sinful national scourge of abortion." He encourages us to fast (like in Lent by eating only 1 full meal and 2 smaller meals or by "refrain...from anything that is normally consumed as part of one's daily routine), pray, and perform works of charity. So, please, in solemn remembrance of this bloody anniversary, give something up today, spend some time in prayer, and make an act of reparation for the grave offense done to God when we reject these little ones which He has given to the world.

And please also turn to our Blessed Mother. May the powerful prayers and intercession of the Immaculate Virgin, Queen of Heaven and Earth, help end this modern slaughter of the innocents, lead those doctors who destroy children to the merciful Heart of Jesus, and comfort those parents who now grieve for the death of their infant sons and daughters.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Protectress of the Unborn, pray for us!

Click on this post to see what the "choice" that is often left unspoken by those who say that they are in favor of a woman's right to choose. These two videos are very disturbing, so please exercise your discretion. Although graphic words will be used, you will not see actual images of aborted babies.

Are you going with CYM to the Walk for Life West Coast?

...If you are, then here are the details that I just received in an email from Auntie Gene.

This Saturday, January 23rd, is the Walk for Life West Cost in San Francisco. This is a great opportunity to give a public witness that ALL LIFE HAS VALUE.

There is will be a rally starting at 11am at the lawn at Justin Herman Plaza near the Embarcadero. We will hear the testimonies of women who have had abortions as well as the former director of a Planned Parenthood.

The walk begins at noon. The walk is 2.5 miles and it will end up at the marina green with a stunning view of the Golden Gate Bridge. During the walk you will pray, and sing, and often just meditate in silence. There will probably be protesters there, but just offer a prayer for them and thank the wonderful S.F. police who do an amazing job each year to keep us safe.

If you are interested in going to the Walk for Life West Coast, CYM is taking the ferry from the Vallejo waterfront.
