VOCATIONS NIGHT: Monday Dec. 21st

>> Tuesday, December 15, 2009

So I am pretty excited for the Misa de Aguinaldo on Monday, December 21st. Rence and I will be back at the home parish, celebrating with friends and family, assisting at the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. But in addition to that, in this Year for Priests we get to promote Vocations!

So... come out to the Misa on Monday the 21st, [It is co-sponsored by CYM anyway... so you should be there] and join us in celebrating vocations. At 7pm before the mass begins, we will share with you vocations videos, testimonies, a bit of music, and more. Mass begins at 7:30pm, with a special choir of seminarians who have put together some beautiful music as we await the coming of the Messiah.

I also would like to extend a special invitation for anyone who is discerning a call to religious life, even just a little bit. Even if you only have thought about the possibility and are slightly open to it. Come. Let us pray for you and with you, and let the Holy Spirit reign in all of our lives.

Maranatha.

Quote of the Moment: Rediscover Joy

"Rediscover the meaning and pleasure of Christian joy, which is so different from that of the world... [Joy] does not consist in having lots of things, but in feeling loved by the Lord, in letting ourselves be a gift to others, and in loving ourselves...It's necessary to try to live every single day in the way the Nativity represents, that is, with Christ's love, his humility and his poverty."

Holy Cow!

>> Sunday, December 13, 2009

It's been a long weekend.

Finals have me stressed out... It's so cold here that water bottles are freezing in my car... And the storms are so bad I can't run any Advent/Christmas errands.

But... I love puns and wordplay. They keep me sane(r). Enjoy:

Holy Cow!:

From The Yahoo News Page (emphasis me):
STERLING, Conn. - A holy cow in Connecticut, perhaps? Or maybe a divine bovine?

A calf with a white marking on its forehead in the approximate shape of a cross was born last week at a dairy farm in Sterling, a small rustic town on the Rhode Island border. Owner Brad Davis tells WFSB-TV he thinks the marking may be a message from above, though he's still trying to figure out what that message might be.

Have a great Sunday!

"Because Confession Can Change The World."

>> Thursday, December 10, 2009

Webster Bull runs a blog called "Why I am Catholic..." He is a convert, and as is the case with many converts to the faith, he often reminds us Cradle Catholics how good we have it. Read this following quote from his most recent article: Because Confession Can Change the World:

To set this world spinning the right way round, I think we Catholics might need to do just one thing: Start going to confession again. Then take our kids to confession. Once a month would be OK, once a week even better. Don't believe me? Listen to me brag about my fourth-grade CCD class... there was that amazing, eerie phenomenon of thirty nine-year-old children sitting quietly for half an hour. As each child came out of the sacristy, he or she pulled down the kneeler at their pew and said their penance. Then we walked back to our classrooms. I asked the children if anyone felt worse now than they did before confession. No one raised a hand. Who felt better? Everyone. Every single child.

Change the World, brothers and sisters.

A reminder: Communal Penance Service TONIGHT, 7pm. GO!

If your hesitant about going... GO!

Need a ride? I will find you one.

Slow Down... It's Advent.

>> Wednesday, December 9, 2009

I know we are well into the Advent Season, but if you are anything like me (whether that's a good thing is debatable), than you have been too busy to really enter into the season. Maybe you are busy with papers, finals, presents, sales, parties, nerf guns, etc. You know what?! Slow down!

Take a minute, watch this video... and as it says "Take Time. Slow Down. Open Up."

Advent Communal Penance Service

>> Tuesday, December 8, 2009

http://stcatherinevallejo.org/index.php/2009/12/advent-communal-penance-service/

This Thursday, December 10th at 7:00pm

[Photo taken at the Communal Penance service of 2007... why isn't there anything at the top? Because our parishioners are short.]

As the faithful assemble together in communal celebration and receive sacramental absolution, they listen together to the Word of God, which proclaims his mercy and invites them to conversion; they examine the conformity of their lives with the Word of God and they help each other through common prayer.

Quote of the Moment: Rebel!

>> Monday, December 7, 2009

Generation MTV teens want to rebel and make a name for themselves. What better way to do that than by being holy! There’s no more profound rebellion than the one given by the saints and martyrs.

As I looked at the sea of teens [at the recent NCYC], joyful to be standing for Jesus Christ and celebrating our ancient faith, I wondered, “If our Lord can change the world with 12, what can he do with 22,000”? Maybe we won’t be a subculture for long.
-- Christopher Stefanick, Director of Youth Ministry for the Archdiocese of Denver
