Right to "choose"...choose what?

>> Thursday, January 22, 2009

When people speak of "choice" or the woman's right to "choose", I always ask myself, "What choice? Women have the right to choose what?"

Another common technique to make the slaughter of children sound nicer is to refer to abortion as "terminating a pregnancy". This video shows what, or rather who is being terminated.

In this world, there are people who want to deny the personhood of the baby in the womb, so they will use the medically correct term "fetus" in referring to the child growing in his or her mother's womb. "Fetus" is a Latin word meaning, "little one". In playing these semantic games, those who want to de-humanize unborn babies use this word because it sounds technical and scientific as if we were just talking about a clump of cells or a mother's medulla oblongata. The funny thing is that no one woman ever has a "fetus shower" or no one goes up to an expecting mother and asks, "When's your fetus do?" So you see how some people use this term to deny what we know to be true: IF IT'S NOT A BABY, A WOMAN IS NOT PREGNANT.

One Voice of Abortion

As you know, today marks the 36th anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision in Roe v. Wade. Since that day, more than 49,000,000 of our brothers and sisters have been slaughtered in the womb (that's more than the population of the entire state of California!)

There are some people who would like to think about this fact as a mere abstract concept of "choice". But, the sad reality is that abortion has a face and a voice.

Here is one voice of abortion. Her name is Gianna Jessen. She was the speaker at last year's Walk for Life West Coast, and I had the amazing opportunity to meet her in person. Her story is unique because she was aborted as a baby, but survived!

A Tale of 2 Presidents

Going off of Raj's post...I just wanted to draw a distinction. Now, as you know, bring pro-life should not depend on race, gender, political party affiliation or even religion (given the existence of the Athiest and Agnostic Pro-Life League).

Recently, (former) President George W. Bush declared January 15, 2009, National Sanctity of Human Life Day. The following is the text of the offical proclamation.

All human life is a gift from our Creator that is sacred, unique, and worthy of protection. On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, our country recognizes that each person, including every person waiting to be born, has a special place and purpose in this world. We also underscore our dedication to heeding this message of conscience by speaking up for the weak and voiceless among us.

The most basic duty of government is to protect the life of the innocent. My Administration has been committed to building a culture of life by vigorously promoting adoption and parental notification laws, opposing Federal funding for abortions overseas, encouraging teen abstinence, and funding crisis pregnancy programs. In 2002, I was honored to sign into law the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, which extends legal protection to children who survive an abortion attempt. I signed legislation in 2003 to ban the cruel practice of partial-birth abortion, and that law represents our commitment to building a culture of life in America. Also, I was proud to sign the Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004, which allows authorities to charge a person who causes death or injury to a child in the womb with a separate offense in addition to any charges relating to the mother.

America is a caring Nation, and our values should guide us as we harness the gifts of science. In our zeal for new treatments and cures, we must never abandon our fundamental morals. We can achieve the great breakthroughs we all seek with reverence for the gift of life.

The sanctity of life is written in the hearts of all men and women. On this day and throughout the year, we aspire to build a society in which every child is welcome in life and protected in law. We also encourage more of our fellow Americans to join our just and noble cause. History tells us that with a cause rooted in our deepest principles and appealing to the best instincts of our citizens, we will prevail.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 18, 2009, as National Sanctity of Human Life Day. I call upon all Americans to recognize this day with appropriate ceremonies and to underscore our commitment to respecting and protecting the life and dignity of every human being.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this fifteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

GEORGE W. BUSH

Now, here's a video of President Obama telling a group of Planned Parenthood donors what is one of the first things he would do as president of the United States.

Lastly, here's video of a nurse who testified before the Illinois state legislature regarding her experience in assisting with abortions. This is in regards to the Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act which would madate that care should be given to a child who is born alive during a failed abortion. Obama voted against this Act.

Please pray for our new President.

Life's Potential

So technically, I am not breaking silence, by doing this. But still, I am breaking my decision of "no-communication" I made with myself, but that's only because I love the unborn.

As many of you know, today, January 22nd is the anniversary of "Roe v. Wade", and since then about 4000 babies a day die because of surgical abortion. I won't get into it too much right now (someone else might), but I just wanted to share this video that's floating around the Catholic Blogosphere. Powerful. As Deacon Greg Kandra said, "Someone need's to show this to Obama. Now."

Also, it is good to see that Obama didn't keep his campaign promise of what he would do as his first act:
"Obama's first Official act as President... Natl Day of Renewal and Reconciliation"

We'll see about the rest. Here's to HOPE.

And last little thing, it seems like y'all back in Solano County have made national news. I go on silent retreat for a few days and you go and make national news... psshhh... I would love to hear if anyone was around this when it was being set-up or if anyone has seen it/been there yet: "Traffic Stopping Display on I-80" and "Drawing attention to Abortion" with Photos.

Beautiful stuff. See y'all on Saturday.
