More Fireproof goodies =)

So if you missed the story on Fireproof I posted earlier this morning, read it.

But I come baring more news and some cool things to share regarding the film:

  • The book "The Love Dare" which is a central part of the movie, is flying off the shelves.

  • The film has a great soundtrack. It can be downloaded on iTunes, and it features great artists like Casting Crowns, and Third Day. It also includes one of my fave Christian songs "Slow Fade". And would you look at that, I even did the first every cymvallejo blog song reflection on it back in October of last year. Wow. It's been almost a year.

  • There's another great song from the movie entitled "Love is not a fight", by Warren Barfield. It has a great music video. Unfortunately, they disabled embedding, so here's a link: "Love is not a fight".

  • Tired of SAD news. Read some amazing stories from people across the country about how this movie changed their lives and has helped save 900+ marriages.

  • Know a friend/friends, or family member/members who could use help igniting their relationship and centering it on Christ. Tell them to watch the movie. and check out Fireproofmymarriage.com

  • Interesting tidbit that made me smile: Often actors in movies compromise morals and kiss men and women on screen who aren't their husbands or wives. Fireproof is a love story, so Kirk Cameron must be one of those heathen actors that does the same all in the name of art and a paycheck, right? wrong. In the Scene where Kirk Cameron's character Caleb Holt kisses his "wife", he doesn't actually kiss the actress Erin Bethea, the actress playing Catherine Holt. Kirk Cameron flew his wife to the set from across the country and it is actually her he is kissing on screen. Beautiful. From fireproofthemovie.com: "Kirk also has long held to a principle that he would kiss no woman other than Chelsea [his wife]. He was able to honor his marriage while making a movie that inspires others to do the same."

    Soo... What do you think?

  • Picture Show for Tomorrow: Animals!

Tomorrow is the Feast of St. Francis, so I thought it would be cool to put together a collection of pictures of us CYMers with pets or any other animals we've been around. (and no JP doesn't count as a sexy beast. rrarr)

e-mail me at cymvallejo@gmail.com and i will try and put something together, i know it's last minute, but i'll add pictures as they come. Send me pictures, or else it'll just be pictures of me and all the animals i have encountered. hahah.

    Check back tomorrow.

“If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men."
    --St. Francis

    Fireproof: It's hot!

    "Never leave your partner behind"
Back in 2006 a friend invited me to watch an underpublicized movie entitled "Facing the Giants". At the time, I made some excuse about not wanting to drive far because the movie wasn't being shown locally. Look at me now, trying to track down a copy of the DVD. Looking back I should have taken the opportunity to watch that movie while it was in theaters for several reasons: it was about football, it was about faith, and it was an opportunity to support a Christian Film company. I didn't watch that movie, but thankfully, many people did.

If they had not, we might not be blessed to have another film touting great reviews from Sherwood Pictures. The film Fireproof, which blew away expectations at the box office, stars Kirk Cameron (Yes "Show me that smile again" Kirk Cameron) as Caleb Holt a firefighter who has just about given up on his seven year marriage. On the brink of Divorce, Caleb is challenged by his father to hold off on the divorce for a 40 day experiment: "The Love Dare". Caleb questions his father, "How am I suppose to love someone who constantly rejects me?" Is it too late for this man who saves lives regularly, to save his marriage? Go watch it and find out! Hit the link for more.

Fireproof did amazingly well it's first weekend grossing $6.5 million. It was fourth total at the box offices, beating out more publicized movies like "My Best Friend's Girl" and "Burn after reading". Pretty impressive considering it was only showing in 839 theaters. It made almost as much ($8111) per theater than Eagle eye did ($8305).

To steal a quote from Rebecca over at Catholic In Film School: "Atheists wish they could mobilize like us."

Locally, it's showing in Fairfield, Emeryville, and two theaters in Sac.
