The Human Experience

>> Wednesday, March 5, 2008

I know most of us will be at Passion Play Rehearsal Tommorrow... But just in case anyone is free... or if you want to spread the word. From the same people who made "Fishers of Men" and "God in the Streets of NY"

You're Invited To An Exclusive Film Event

From Grassroots Films of Brooklyn, New York comes THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE – the story of a band of brothers who travel the world in search of the answers to the burning questions: Who am I? What is it to be human? Why do we search for meaning?

Their journey brings them into the middle of the lives of the homeless on the streets of New York City, the orphans and disabled children of Peru, and the abandoned lepers in the forests of Ghana, Africa. What the young men discover changes them forever. Through one on one interviews and real life encounters, the brothers are awakened to the beauty of the human person and the resilience of the human spirit.

LA: A Message of Purity

Many of us have seen Jason Evert and his wife Crystalina via the Romance without Regret videos. I, however, had the genuine pleasure of meeting both of them in person this past weekend. Jason's session on “Raising Chaste Teens” was my first workshop for the weekend, and it was truly helpful, informative and moving. Definitely a great way to start my LA Congress experience. If any parent, youth minister or educator has the opportunity to attend this workshop in the future, you should. Unfortunately, the session wasn't recorded, so it wasn't available for purchase, but I do have a lot of notes.

After the workshop, I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Crystalina Evert who was waiting at the back of the hall. We spoke for a moment, I met their youngest daughter, and I shared with her my gratitude for what they do. I was worried that it might be the type of thing that they hear often, and I would just get a “Thanks” and a smile. I was wrong. She was so warm and accepting. Even her demand for a hug, rather than a handshake was filled with authentic care. I was blessed to just meet her, and share with her the story of our Confirmation program, but she did me one better. She took my e-mail and address down, and she is sending me some materials and resources to share with the program. Amazing.

My next goal, was to track down Jason, who had been escorted to the exhibit hall, followed by throngs of people. I made my way through the Hilton, and back to the convention center, and after consulting my program guide and map, made it to the booth he was waiting at. He was chatting with people, signing autographs, and after waiting for a short bit, I had the opportunity to speak with him. I shared the same gratitude with him I had shared with his better half, and he too greeted me with genuine care. Interestingly enough, breaking out a pen and a pad of paper he also offered to take my name in order to send me some materials. I had to stop him before he started writing, informing him his equally kind wife had already offered to do the same... I did not, however, waste this opportunity to make a small request of his generous nature. I asked him if it would be possible to record him saying a short message to the youth of our Confirmation Program.

I share it with you now.

Thank You Jason and Crystalina Evert.

it's [not] too late to apologize

I apologize.

Sorry for the false hopes about a ton of posts to the blog on Monday. Rest assured however, they will be coming... maybe today after I get out of work.

I also apologize for that lame attempt at humor that is just over 4.7 weeks late......
